This beautiful beetle pendant was hand cast from a real beetle and has been designed and handmade at Thor & Wistle by RACHEL ENTWISTLE. The detail is just stunning on both the top side and bottom side of the pendant.
The beetle is cast in bronze and plated with 18ct Yellow Gold and measures 2.5cm by 1cm. The chain is 42cm in length with 5cm extension, the chain and findings are gold filled.
Upon death in ancient Egypt, it was believed that one's heart was measured in lightness against the feather of a goddess, and if found wanting it would be devoured by a monster never to find the afterlife. The guarantee of protection to mask the faults of the heart was a scarab amulet, the beetle's shiny carapace a beautiful jewel and the only shield against the sins of living.
I love this ancient belief and like to think that this beetle design is imbued with protective qualities.
